New Delhi: OTT has become a major source of entertainment in the last few years. Fees for web series and actors working in them have increased. Some of the most expensive web series today have budgets higher than many big films. Even the budget of ‘Animal’ and ‘Dinky’ seems low compared to India’s most expensive web series. The lead hero of the web series was signed by the producers for a huge fee.
‘Rudra: The Age of Darkness’, a web series based on the British show ‘Luther’, is the highest-grossing Indian web series available on OTT. It is available on Disney Plus Hotstar. According to media reports, the budget of the series is Rs 200 crore, which is more than any web series budget in India. According to a Times of India report, Ajay Devgn charged Rs 125 crore to play the lead role in the series.
Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ is also behind
Ajay Devgan’s ‘Rudra’ has a bigger budget than many big Bollywood films. It also includes ‘Dunky’ (Rs 85 crore) and ‘Animal’ (Rs 100 crore). Aamir Khan’s ambitious film ‘Lal Singh Chadha’ (Rs 180 crore) also has a lower budget than the web series ‘Rudra’. Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ was made for just Rs 60 crore.
‘Rudra’ is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar
50 crore rupees were spent to make ‘Saam Bahadur’. The budget of Salman Khan’s film ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ (132 crores) is also less than that of Ajay Devgn’s series ‘Rudra: The Edge of Darkness’. ‘Rudra’ is the Hindi adaptation of the British crime thriller ‘Luthor’. Apart from Ajay Devgan, Rashi Khanna, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni and Ashish Vidyarthi also played important roles in the series. The first season of the series was released on Hotstar in March 2022.
